‘Exodus of the Butterfly’ is my most recent and still ongoing multidisciplinary artistic research project.
The project investigates whats still left of the original identity of my grandmother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
A complete loss of short term memory has caused lots of drastic changes in her behaviour and consciousness throughout the years.
Does a permanent loss of memory cause an individual to lose it’s identity?
Is an individual’s identity based solely on the memories they are able to recall?
‘Exodus of the Butterfly’ serves as a coping mechanism and meditational work for both my family and myself, and even other people confronted with the same disease and it’s correlated mourning process.
